MateFlow ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of students, teachers, parents, and school administrators who use our platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information.

2. FERPA Compliance

MateFlow operates as a "school official" under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). We only access education records as authorized by the school or district. Student data is used solely to provide our educational services and is never shared with third parties for non-educational purposes.

3. COPPA Compliance

For students under 13, we rely on the school to obtain necessary parental consent under COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without proper school authorization.

4. Data We Collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide our services:

• Account information (name, email, role)
• Assignment submissions and grading data
• Usage data for platform improvement

5. AI and Student Data

Student submissions processed by our AI grading system are never used to train AI models. All AI processing is performed in isolated sessions, and student data is not retained by our AI providers beyond the immediate grading request.

6. Data Security

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). We maintain strict access controls, conduct regular security audits, and store all data within the United States.

7. Data Retention

We retain student data only for the duration specified by the school or district agreement, with a default retention period of 3 years. Schools may request data deletion at any time.
